The Christian Holy Week is a significant period for the Church. It is the week leading up to Easter Sunday and marks the final week of Lent, a time of spiritual preparation and reflection. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and culminates with Easter Sunday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During Holy Week, Christians engage in various religious practices and traditions. Here are a few examples:

  • Palm Sunday: This day remembers the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and the crowds placed palm branches at His feet while calling "Hosanna!" expecting Him to be coming at the king prophesied in the Old Testament. Little did they know that it was just a foreshadowing of Christ's second coming.
  • Maundy Thursday: This day commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples. It is also known as Holy Thursday, and some Christians participate in foot-washing ceremonies to honor the humility of Jesus.
  • Good Friday: This day marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is a day of solemn reflection and mourning for many Christians. Some churches hold special services, such as the Stations of the Cross, which depict the events leading up to Jesus' death.
  • Easter Sunday: This is the most important day of the Church calendar, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the salvation that it brought.

Overall, Holy Week is a time for Christians to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and the hope of new life that his resurrection brings.

As a continuation of things remembered during this week, it can help to follow along the events of Jesus' last week before His death and remember these primary attributes of Christ displayed on each day.

Follow with us this week as we post on each day and look deeper on each of these attributes and prepare our hearts and minds for the Joy and Hope that Easter Sunday brings.
